Some things are worth waiting for. That doesn’t mean it’s easy, but it’s worth it. Nickel Brook’s Bolshevik Bastard seasonal imperial stout fits into this category.
This has to be one of the most enjoyable imperial stouts in Ontario. The complexity makes it a fun beer to drink. And the high hoppiness means it isn’t overly sweet. So the hop heads can find something to love in this beer!
Bolshevik Bastard pours jet black with a tan coloured head. There is a nice coffee aroma, mixed with a slight fruitiness.
Taste-wise, this stout is a wonderful adventure! Both chocolatey and fruity, but not so sweet that a full pint would be overwhelming. In fact, a second pint would be easy – but watch out for that 9% punch! There is a really pleasant bitterness that balances the malts perfectly.
I wait all year for this beer. Including it in the advent calendar was a no-brainer. Go out and get some of these before these disappear for another year!
